Whatsup fellas (and ladies).

anyways so i took my truck in today to get her fixed and turns out that the u-joint on the passenger side was locked up and the drivers side was almost locked up.

i also had some warn manual hubs put on. So i was driving it around tonight and i noticed a soft whistling noise coming from the front wheels. its almost like sound that a squeeky belt makes on a car....but its coming from the wheels....i'm almost sure of it....

is this normal of manual hubs or new u-joints to do?

thanks!

ryan

I don't think it is normal. You might want to re--grease/replace your wheel bearings. That might be the problem.

i had the u-joints and hubs put on at a local shop
and it just started doing this after i got it back today.
hmm if it presists i probably will take it back...i was trying to see if it was normal or anything like that

also when i apply the brakes the sound go's away....and its not very loud to begin with....but still its noticable

I'd be willing to bet that the hubs are locked in and that what you are hearing is the front drivetrain moving.

It's not getting power (if not in 4x4), but when the wheels turn with the hubs locked, that turns the axles, and the front drive shaft.

I get that noise when I lock in my hubs. It's good to do every now and again if you don't use 4x4 often. It keeps the U-joints lubricated so they don't wear out as quickly.

It won't hurt anything to keep the hubs locked in, but I would not go on the highway with them locked. It will also lower your gas mileage a little.

Hope this helps.

Ditto with BigDave. Your hubs ar in the locked position and you are hearing the whine from the front wheels driving the front drivetrain. Your steering probably feels a litle "heavier" than normal as well.

No problem, and no harm done. The wrench may have left them this way as he probably tested them and simply forgot to unlock the hubs.

If this is not the problem, take it back right now.

the steering feels fine
no pulling hard or anything , it drives like its not in 4x4.

hmmmm weird i'll see if it makes hte sound today, if so i am going to call them up...

thanks!

Did you check to see if the hubs were locked in before driving it today?

Dave

ok i called the shop and they said the sound could be the sqeeker on one of the brake pads, he said it was really low on one side....and wanted to change them yesterday but i didn't have the money..
anyways
and the hubs are on FREE and 4x4 button is OFF
sound goes away when i push on the brake.

i bet it is one of the squeekers on the brake pads

my girlfriends honda did this forever changed the pads and bam, no squeek

sounds logical?

thanks
