I just received my Warn manual hubs from 4Wheelparts.com yesterday. In the package I got the two hubs, 4 threaded rings with notches in them (2 of which have a pin), and 2 thinner rings with holes in them. Is this everything I need? Also, I have heard that I will need a hub socket? Is there a way I can find out what socket I will need without taking apart the assembly, checking, putting it back together and then driving to Autozone? What about this wheel bearing socket that the howto page mentions?

If you currently have auto hub, you will need an auto hub spindle nut socket to remove the auto hubs and a manual hub spindle nut socket to install the new manual hubs. They are different sizes and styles.

You could take the nut to AutoZone and ask them for a spindle nut that will fit that nut.

I just may be able to help you out on both counts, if you're interested. Check out my post in the For Sale Forum - "No Slip Locker & Others".

Re: Warn Manual hubs

1st of all - They are fantastic ! ! ! ! <-- You will be
happy they kick ass!

Yes, you will need a socket, It's about $26 at most autoparts stores, just tell the guy the year and the make and he'll tell ya which one.
If I remember correctly it the biger of the two that will fit a ford and it either has 3/4 teeth on it, I think I'd lean more toward 3 teeth, oh and it's black!

Good luck

I just replaced mine yesterday, and I borrowed the socket from a parts store(Canadian Tire). Ask around if anywhere lends out tools, I know some places do.

Tinnerman Clips?

I have yet to install the manuals (Will probably do it tomorrow when I get some free time), but I was looking through the supplied directions and they mention tinnerman clips. From the diagram, it looks like there are three of them, and they attach to the wheel studs after the hublock assembly (piece with 5 holes that says "automatic 4x4") has been put in place. Now, I have taken the hublock assembly off before, and I have never encountered any clips. Could it be that the previous owner of my explorer thought that these were useless and tossed them? Are they required for the manual hubs to function properly? Should I buy replacements?

Not needed...All it is for is to hold the hub in place until you get the wheel on..

Well I got the hubs on yesterday... After spending about an hour figuring out the first side, the second side took all of ten minutes to do. They work great! I'm so glad to have 4x4 again!
