Does anyone know how to tighten them up? My passenger side one wont hold its position when driving. I noticed there is a kind of access panel kind of on front/top that I popped off. I see two holes, but I cant see any set screws or anything to tighten. I don't want to take the whole thing off, I would rather just silicone the mirror in place.

The ball/joint the mirror pivots on may have just worn or come loose over time.

Usually the way to access it is to just pop off the mirror with a plastic pry tool, but given the age of mirrors on first gens, it may be brittle and just break.

You can just use some Permatex black/clear silicone to keep it from moving, just roll down the window while in the driver's seat, adjust the mirror where you want it, tape it in place on the top and sides with some masking tape, and put a small bead/blob of the silicone in each corner, enough that it contacts the mirror.

You can exit out the passenger side door to keep from opening/closing the driver's door and jarring the mirror, then just let it dry overnight and check how it does the next day with the tape removed. If it still needs more bracing, you can just add more silicone.

That's what I'll end up doing then. Now that I think of it, I even have black rtv with me from a recent diff fluid change.

Black RTV silicone isn't the best stuff for sealing a diff cover. Usually the Permatex copper is what you want to handle the heat, but Permatex also has sealant made especially for differentials / gear oil applications now.
