i have a 5spd in my explorer and 4th gear is gone feels like ur in neutral..???
well im trying to figure out wats rong /how to fix it or, does the 2.9 ranger tranny fit does anyone kno anything about this?

Sounds like it's time to tear down the tranny. There are no external adjustments.

I believe the 2.9 tranny will fit, but it's not what's in the Explorer. The Ranger uses a Mitsubishi tranny and the Explorer uses a Mazda tranny which is stronger.

You can get specific manual transmission info on therangerstation.com They have a good tech article on what fits what.

The new Mazda transmissions that were made to go behind the SOHC is a little heavier than what's in there now and might be a good replacement. I'm don't know if they even make the light duty version anymore since they don't make the OHV anymore.

hmm i really need to find a tranny.. or sumthing anyone positive the 2.9 ranger fits the xploder
