Manual trans. reinstall

2004 Ford Ranger manual transmission reinstall. Got the bellhousing to get to about 1/4 inch from where it mounts up to engine. I put bolts in at 9 and 3 and was able to tighten little by little back and forth until the bellhousing was flush with engine. Does this mean that the spines are definitely lined up correctly? Thanks.

The bell housing should have slid up flush, you should not have used the bolts to pull it in flush, you may have damaged something.
Are you sure the clutch disk is in correctly and not backwards?

Yeah the clutch disk is in correctly.

"Yes. You were just fighting spring pressure of the plate and slave. Sometimes it helps to crack the bleeder to let it collapse."

What about that? That was a reply I got from another forum. I want to be sure the splines are meshed correctly so I don't put the tranny back together and have a huge problem when I try to drive it.

That very well could be the answer, I forgot it is a hydraulic clutch. Hopefully one of the guys with a standard will have the answer. It might take awhile for one to check in here.

Well truck is put back together and running well except that it is leaking a small amount of trans. fluid. after being driven. If it sits cold it doesn't leak anything.

Turns out to the the output shaft seal, which is an easy fix.
