A quick and maybe silly question (again new to this)
I would like to keep my Automatic transmission, but want to switch to a manual transfer case. Is this possible? How involved would it be?

I started to say sure, it will work, but I thought about it a second, and realized the manual linkage needs a place to bolt onto on the transmission. The manual trans has the bolt hole, not sure if the auto trans does.

That said, I've seen where someone built an adapter plate to hold the linkage on a later model manual trans that did not have the linkage bolt hole, maybe that idea could be used on your auto trans.

The automatic transmission if it has the hole to screw the transfer lever. Do it, you will not have any problem.

I am interested in this conversion. If you are willing could you tell me a little bit about it? Was your's successful? How do you shift it or do you just leave it in one position. How is the shifter coupled to the transfer case receiver. Is this a common adaption. I am having problems with my transfer case and may have to go to something drastic! Thanks for any help.

So far I am looking for one (don't get much free time, also daily driver so it doesn't have much down time). Seems a borg warner 1354 is what you want, it seems like it should just bolt on. They are in rangers and Broncos of similar years. When I get more hands on will, update.

I just did this on my Bronco 2, with the A4ld. As long as the threaded hole is there, it will work. Make sure you get the shift lever, boot, and bolt. The bolt is obsolete through Ford.
