i'm new and would like to say hi to everyone on here...i got a problem and wondering if anyone out there can help me...put another motor, transmission and transfercase in my 91 ranger...all painted up...shifter works good untill now...i was putting in the rear drive shaft yesterday...put all new universals in it...i have had the shifter out of it for i put the motor and tranny in together...put the shifter in it and worked fine...putting in the front drive shaft for my 4x4 so i put the truck in first and pulled out the shifter...o boy i think i did a no no...put the shifter back in the tranny and can't move it in any gear...seems to be locked in a gear...did i do a bobo...i tryed rocking the truck to see if i can get it to go to neutral...no go joe...the thing i don't want to do is remove the tranny...what can i do...hope to here from someone...ty

Is there any way you can remove the inspection plate. If so it is probably in the shifting forks.

By the way welcome. If you do find the problem please post, so we all can get some info on this.
 






Or take off the shifting linkage. then try to move the shifting arms back in the nutral pos. This should do it. Make sure the shifting linkage in the nutral pos. is not tring to push one of the shifting arms in gear. On my Hurst shifters they used to have a hole that you would put a drill bit or something thru in the nutral pos. and then line up linkage

When u do this make sure there is no force on the tranny. Like the truck is on a hill and appling leverage. Push in clutch

hope i got this right...ty for your replys...got it back in gear by moving the tongues...body needs body work...i got some pics of it...i don't now how to put them on the forum...if anyone has a email i can send pics than someone can post them for me...been working on it sence june...i had 400,000 km on it...put a motor in it and transmission and transfercase out of same year of ranger 1991 but had 176,00 km...new gaskets throught out frost plugs seals...it was a electronic shift but now shifter and manual hubssince i bought it the 4x4 never worked...speedo cable broke inside transfercase...going to be all better...lol...ty for the help...chow tazcu812
