there are literally pages upon pages of arguments pro and con on this subject on both stangnet and the corral. i did it, and it did nothing. no extra good, no extra bad. dont waste your time.

MAF Screen Removal
Took the screen out of my '96 4.o ohv and noticed an improvement at upper rpm's. More pull and faster response. Low speed had no difference. I think the screen is there in case some bonehead decides to run their vehicle without a filter so trash won't get piled up around the sensor filaments. As long as you run a filter the screen is not required. Also, I don't believe all that stuff about the screen smoothing out the airflow for the MAF sensor, the filter does that very nicely already.

The purpose of the screen is to defuse the incoming air flow so that the MAF can get a true reading of airflow. Sometimes the design of the air intake/filter system causes too much of a turbulant air flow and the MAF can't get a true reading, thus the screen eliminates this problem.
