Hi dudes.I'm doing an explorer disc rear to 89 ranger swap. Can anyone tell me what the correct m/c would be?Brett did a conversion and from what I gathered in the article, used the old m/c but others used a 4wh disc specific unit and were less than specific about which one.I tried one for a 95 but the ports are wrong,so Im down to 4 choices.Id use the original small bore cylinder if I can get away with it.Any input is appreciated.

On my '93, I didn't have to change anything to get the rear discs to work. It surprised me, to say the least.

The rear discs/rear end I used are from a '98 Explorer, 2WD. I installed rebuild calipers from Napa and Bendix Titumetalic pads. I redid the brake lines, since the Ex line hits the axle at the left side spring mount, and the Ranger hits the axle at the differential. Actually, the Ranger way allows for much more articulation with less brake line. My rear antilock works, too.

Anyway, I attached all the lines, bled the system, and it works great! I don't know if you have antilocks or not, but you might try to compare the specs of an '89 vs. a '93 master cylinder. Maybe you could use a '93 if there is a significant difference.

Thanks.I spentmost of today looking for adapters for the 95 m/c ports to 89 hardlines with little success.Ive gotten conflicting advice on whether I absolutely have to switch m/c's.There is a considerable difference in bore size. The good thing about being a mechanic is knowing parts people willing to help you.He tried at least 20 different adapters but found a match only for one port.Ill check the specs for a 93 and see if they are different.

Well, apparently in mid 90 or 91 ford switched to a 1 inch bore m/c with metric bubble ports as oppsed to a 15/16" with inverted flare fittings. The 4w disc explorers had the metric threads with a 1and1/16" bore so I'm still stuck but the m/c I have is the best choice if I can make the lines fit.If I cant find an adapter,Ill be brushing up on my line flaring skills.
