Max payload?

What is the max payload for a 2wd regular cab, 2.3L? I can't seem to find it anywhere. I'm trying to determine how much firewood I can carry. Thanks.

According to the 1999 2.5L Reg cab load rating representing maximumum allowable weight of people, cargo and body equipment and is reduce by optional equipment, a 4x2 package with #1 std payload package ("112" wheel base) you can only support 1260 LBS. You of cousee can only support less due to braking capacity.

Just thought I'd let folks know. I've been hauling firewood and weighing on the truck scale. Loading the bed level with fir produces a GVW of 4400lbs, which includes my wife and I. At 4400lbs the little ranger runs great down the highway, pulls up the hills getting out of the woods, and the headlights aren't blinding oncoming traffic. Once you get much past that the headlights start searching the sky.

I have a 06 Ranger, LB,3L,Auto,2wd w/payload package 2. I carry 2 face cords regardless of how green the wood is, so some loads can be real heavy. I may do 12 trips highway before I get all next year's supply of wood in before winter.

I back the load carrying with Monro air lifter shocks pressured at 90lbs(max150), and when not loaded I deflate them to 30LBS. I won't load anything heavier because the shock pins are just 5/8in, so I risk tearing them off if the springs bottom out and I hate doing overhead welding. The load lifter shocks are supposed to give an additional 700 lbs carrying, but they don't do near as much work.

On the 4000 lbs, I used to load my previous Comanche like that. At one time I managed to lash on a case loader complete with arms, and at another a full load of asphalt shingles, and on another portland cement bags. I really tortured the little truck and it never complained. What did occur is the rear axle bearings wore out faster and of the course the rear seals went first. The standard AX5 tranny probably got noisier prematurely due to that.

But still I wouldn't recommend such heavy loads. You can't be doing something no good.

What I don't like about Rangers and carrying firewood is the wheel wells and box bed could be a heavier gauge. Now the inside of my box looks like it went through a wreck yard. Not so much as a dent in my Comanche box.(guess you can tell I miss the Comanche )

On my 91,I installed rear springs out of an Explorer 4wd. Brought the box up 3 inches higher and even rode better. I did this because I haul a snowmobile in the bed and the headlights didn't shine on the road with the original springs.
