May be purchasing a new to us used 96 XLT Explorer with 108K in excellent condition

We are wanting to purchase a 96 XLT V6 Explorer. It has 108K on it and the only issue we found on test drive was an intermitent grinding coming from the front left wheel. Is this a hub issue or bearing? Anyone else come across this? I am assuming it is a simple fix? Other than that it is in excellent condition, brand new tires,brakes, rack and pinion, exhaust. Fluids wer changed on schedule etc. very well kept, we expect to get it for 3G +tax and title? Good deal? Please let us know what you all think.

Welcome to this forum! I've seen some members get a 97 for half the price. You could find a newer model for this price. Take the wheel off to check it out.

3,000 is way to much... 1,500 - 2,000 tops.

Up here in Michigan, $1,500-$2,000 gets you about a 150k V6 Explorer XLT, usually cloth, and some rust on the lower bits, needing tires, and sporting the original exhaust and may need brakes with other minor issues.

$3,000 will get you a V8, maybe some rust, around 120-150k with similar issues/needs.

The grinding could be a bearing, you can do the lift wheel, try to move it around, or the turn one way or the other while driving and see if it grinds more turning one way then the other.

Do you have some more info? if it's only got 100k, it may not be too far off reasonable from what I've seen up here, and you're close by. I was looking hard for the last 6 weeks for a V8 to toss in the garage as a spare vehicle and had a hard time finding something up to those standards for less. Remember- new tires, brakes, rack, and exhaust will be worth $1,000 so the truck you'd find online would have to be a perfectly maintained XLT with 100k for $2,000 needing those things so I honestly don't think it's too far out of the ballpark, especially if they take $2,500 for it...
