I was wondering if anyone here has put electric fans on their Explorer to replace the mechanical fans. I strongly suspect that the clutch on the mechanical fan that I currently have is packing it in, and I have seen that the price of an electric fan is about what a new fan clutch will set me back.

Any thoughts on how difficult it is to install, if there is any milage benifits or warm-up time reduction.

Any products that you guys can either strongly recommend or would never touch again?

Thanks

James

IMHO, the mechanical fan is the way to go. I would hate to be out 200 miles from home and have electric fan problems. Ford factory clutch has proven to be reliable for me.

I must just be "old school"

There's at least two people on here that I've seen posts from regarding and electrical fan. Try a search, they should come up.

The electric fan is considered to to be a performance enhancing modification. It runs off the battery, not the crank. There is a bunch of information on the site about electric fans.

Performance wise they are great! Reliability wise... well, I've had bad experience in the past.

Thanks for the Link X~Factor.

I'm thinking that since I live in the Great White North (aka Canada), that the electric fan could be a good thing. Let mother nature cool the engine for 6 months of the year.

I appreciate the link, the pricing and part number. I'll keep you posted when I try this modification.

Thanks again.

James
