I have an 05 Mountaineer with AWD, it seems whenever the drive train slips, a harsh mechanical noise start coming from the transmission, also when this occurs the transmission shifts extremely hard and at lower than normal rpm. The noise will go away if you can get the vehicle back to normal driving speed for a while, otherwise if you are in slow traffic or driving through a parking lot you have to kill the vehicle and restart it, viola it disappears......any ideas would be appreciated

get her looked at by a drive train shop. transmissions, transfercases, and differentials are all very complex and precise pieces of engineering, they will be able to best tell you whats wrong with your ride.
