I'm not at the point yet...
But I have been considering the MS for may reasons. two tables can be stored. So when i'm driving to the trail I can have excellent fuel economy, then when I get to the trail or I'm towing I can have a different map for more low end torque. I have a 5 speed so tranny is handled.
With MAP, the air being ingested is inferred or calculated. With MAF it is actually reading the air you are ingesting. Ideally, you would use both, but it will only be necessary to do that if you are running forced induction. MS supports many MAFs, so you can use one larger than your engine could ever max out.
I have seen a couple Rangers and BIIs with MS only one X. I don't feel like looking for them now. Google and the MS forum were my only research tools.
It's true that MS is for people that like to tinker. It is very flexible and customizable. But there is no reason that when you have it dialed in it will need any further manipulation.
Installing and programming a stand alone is not for the faint of heart. If you don't know what you are doing you will get frustrated and give up, wasting money and time. At a minimum, you will need assistance in setting it up correctly on a dyno. You can get it running with out a dyno. but it will never be reliable, and you will never get close to the full potential unless some one with a very similar setup give you a copy of the map they built.
Finally, I think you should reconsider your position on MPG and pollution. They are important. It is selfish and arrogant not to take them into account.
