MegaSquirt systems?

I'm not at the point yet...
But I have been considering the MS for may reasons. two tables can be stored. So when i'm driving to the trail I can have excellent fuel economy, then when I get to the trail or I'm towing I can have a different map for more low end torque. I have a 5 speed so tranny is handled.

With MAP, the air being ingested is inferred or calculated. With MAF it is actually reading the air you are ingesting. Ideally, you would use both, but it will only be necessary to do that if you are running forced induction. MS supports many MAFs, so you can use one larger than your engine could ever max out.
I have seen a couple Rangers and BIIs with MS only one X. I don't feel like looking for them now. Google and the MS forum were my only research tools.

It's true that MS is for people that like to tinker. It is very flexible and customizable. But there is no reason that when you have it dialed in it will need any further manipulation.

Installing and programming a stand alone is not for the faint of heart. If you don't know what you are doing you will get frustrated and give up, wasting money and time. At a minimum, you will need assistance in setting it up correctly on a dyno. You can get it running with out a dyno. but it will never be reliable, and you will never get close to the full potential unless some one with a very similar setup give you a copy of the map they built.

Finally, I think you should reconsider your position on MPG and pollution. They are important. It is selfish and arrogant not to take them into account.

whats everyone problem with the mpg and pollution thing.A- mpg will INCREASE with a truck that is tuned properly and getting the right fuel mixture!! B- NO pollution controlling devices are being removed when installing a MS and will still meet the epa requirements!!if any thing having it tuned right will produce less than if it was none tuned and burning rich as crap!!! C-who the hell is thinking about mpg and pollution when they are on the track!!we are talking HP and E.T!!! AND FINALLY E-if you was that worried about mpg and pollution you WOULDN'T be driving a 92 EXPLORER!!!!
thank you and have a good day.:salute:

Not always true - an engine that undergoes "lean burn" (with AFR as high as 65:1) will only suffer in MPG by bringing the AFR back to the typical 14.7:1 or so (which MS uses).

You are forgetting quite a few things - one of which is the MPG advantage of sequential injection over MS' bank injection - which increases emissions.
also, just because a component is removed doesn't mean its being used - MS is a bare bones EFI controller and as such, is probably not as efficient as the stock EFI controller since it is not aware of all engine variables. Posted via Mobile Device

I stand corrected.I all ways thought a lean or rich fuel mix will hurt mpg.also for my first gen all polution control devices will still be on the truck and used.all computer controlled devicese that are on there will be used with ms right so shouldn't ms have just as much control as a stock ecu?this mod shouldn't make the truck that much more of a polluter than any other muscle car out there.

Wideband A/F ratio meter

I didn't see a wideband A/F ratio meter in your signature's list of modifications. If you don't have one, I suggest that you install one. If you don't have a custom tune your engine may already be running lean due to the larger than stock MAF sensor. An A/F ratio meter will be essential for tuning your Megasquirt injection system. It would be helpful to become familiar with your current A/F ratios for comparison with the Megasquirt results. My normally aspirated SOHC V6 is tuned for an average of 12.2:1 at WOT from 3,000 rpm to the shift points.

No I don't have a wideband as off right now.I'm was reseaching it right now,but plan on putting one in soon.I was trying to find one at the junkyard that I could just take out and use for the time being to see what I'm at,I'm sure I'm running lean after all the mods.what would be an ideal donner vehicle?

o yea I was going to get a new gauge,I was talking about O2
