I was wondering if anyone has noticed and hates the fact that when you have your automatic headlights on, your message center, climate control, and temp/compass displays are perpetually dimmed. This drives me nuts!! I think that it is an obvious design flaw, since the whole point of automatic headlights is to not have to touch them and just let the light sensor do the work. But during the day I can't read any of the digital displays because the are dimmed!

Has anyone messed around with this, dug into things, tested wires and figured out if it is possible to just disable the dimming to the digital displays? I did a search on this topic, but I didn't find anything. Thanks to any that have input.

Up here in Canada, all cars come with daytime running lights, we dont get the option to turn our lights off, which kinda sucks when your looking for a campsite at 2 in the morning shining your lights in to every tent. That being said I have no problems reading my display during the day. But my day time lights are different than my night timelights which are different than my high beams. So when my day time lights are on no dimming but as soon as I turn my night time lights on my display dims. I take it your daytime and night time lights are the same which is why yours dim during the day. Im sure you could find a way to overide it, but then your display may be too bright during the night. Any ways you could see how they do it on a canadian vehicle then try and tranfer the same idea to your american one

not much help but maybe get you going in the right direction.

I've had that before, not exactly my favorite thing. I would have to hold my hand over the clock to be able to read it. Now my aftermarket HU doesn't dim at night! I guess you have to pick your poison.

Or, adjust the level of the dash lights for day & night driving. I'd be really surprised if some Forum member hadn't discovered how to defeat the auto headlights.

I thought the lights only dimed when the headlights were on. If that is the case then when in the autoheadlight mode your light sensor is not working and its turning on the headlights in the daylight.
Check the sensor.

That is what I was thinking Bill. Why are your headlights coming on during the day? Mine don't and the only time my stuff dims is when the headlights actually do come on, and that is at night time.

yep, shouldn't be on during the day.

I was under the impression that the highbeams are on at half the wattage during the day as daytime running lights, then during the night they come on full. Is this not the case? So are you guys saying that there is no daytime running light setting with the automatic headlights? I will have the sensor checked out if that is wrong.

Theres a little green light on the rearview that comes on when the autoheadlights are on. If thats on during the day something is wrong....

I see, the little green light is always on, I will check this out. And here I though that ford had messed up in the auto headlight design.
