Does any one have real life experience with tires....or am I better off sticking with what appears to be tried and true LTX m/s or a/t's? 99% of my driving is road/highway in all weather conditions (snow, rain , slush, dry, ice ...you name it we get it!
thanks,

or am I missing some others?

I don't have them, but I do know people on this board who do have them have liked them.

I have been considering these tires too. Someone please post your experience with em. How are they in rain and snow on-road? On dry pavement, do they handle very well? Do they have a fairly smooth and quiet ride? Are they OK for mild off-road trips?

The reviews I have read rate them pretty high, but I also want to hear from people who have them on their Explorers.

I'll need new tires soon and I want a good all season tire. I know I am asking for alot, but they aren't exactly cheap.

I got the Michelin Cross Terrains on my wife's 2000 ex the second time my tires were replaced under recall. (the first time they put on another set of Firestones) I l liked the Firestones but I really like the Michelins. To me they do seem to ride a little stiffer but handle better, are quieter and after 30,000 miles look to have another 40-50,000 miles left in them. Unlike my son's Goodyears I have never had to have these rebalanced and they still ride fine. I almost put some on my F-150 but they were a little pricey at the time so I bought Michelins at Sam's. (wife got mad when I told her I was going to take her's) Good tires for me........

By the way we got 8 inches of snow here in middle Tennessee in one morning last week. (blizzard here!) her Explorer handled it great. Unfortunately for most they did not have four wheel drive and others had lots of problems. Good luck

My Dad has them on his 2002 X and loves them. He lives in ND, and they get lots of snow/ice/etc. They are rated very high for a highway tire. They are still pricey. If you watch tirerack, they often put certain sizes on sale...

Thanks for the replys. Sounds like they are worth the money. I guess I will go ahead and get them.

I am really sick of the Generals (recall replacements)I have right now.
They suck on dry pavement, even worse on wet, and just dangerous on snow. On top of all that, they barely lasted a year (about 20k miles). I wanted to change them last winter because they were so bad in the snow, but they were brand new and I figured I would give them a chance to break-in a little.

Michelin XC LT4

I've been running Michelin XC LT4's on my 98 EB for the past 40K miles. They're similar to the Cross Terrain but just a tad more aggressive.

They're sold only through Sears Auto Center and they're on sale until 2/18.

I stay on road mostly but I see lots of snow, ice and rain where I live and I've never had a problem. They're pretty worn and they have never hydroplaned on me.

Good luck with your decision.

we have the cross terrains on the 96, and they are great for rain, etc...... that one doesnt go to the snow or any offroad.........

I have the cross terrains on my 2002 X and really like them. They are very quiet and handle well in dry, wet and snowy conditions. We just had 8- 10 inches of snow where I live (Minnesota) and they performed very well. For the record I had Firestones, Yokohama Geolander AT+ and Michelin LT/X on my previous Explorer and Ranger. The cross terrains give a much better all around performance IMHO.
