I've stumbled upon the explorer I want, A 1997 Blue XLT with 80,000 miles for 11,500. I'm lookin to put a 2" lift on it and 31's , does anyone have picks of the mickey thompson classic II's on their explorer? Also are they a good choice, or are the eagle 589's better?

MT's are better quality, look a tiny bit better, and are a helluva lot stronger, but i think they are double the price....but they're not twice the strength, twice as good looking or twice the quality. It all depends on your intended use...off roading with low pressure in your tires...or street use. When i buy wheels, i'm usually concerned with curb appeal, other people want their wheels to withstand years of hardcore offroading, so you decide. perhaps, find a store that sells both of them and compare, and while youre there, see what else they have.

The MT Classic II are about 10.00 diffrent then the Eagles. The MT Classic is about double the price of the Eagles. If you look in any of the off road magazines they usually have specials on the rims.

personally, i prefer the Classic II's. having had and broke a set of the 589's, i am definately going with MT the next go around. the main advantage i see over the 589's (even more than the looks) is that fact that the CII's have steel inserts in the lug holes, meaning you won't flake off peices of aluminum ever time you rotate or change your tires. that's how i destroyed my set of 589's. by the time i was done w/ my set of SSR's, the lug holes looked like eggs. once they start wearing down, the vibration of a big mud tire just keeps on grinding on them. i would personally go with the CII.

POST SOME PICS WHEN YOU GET IT DONE!! :)
