214.... cylinder identification signal ...this is a frequency type signal coming from a camshaft mounted sensor ( camshaft postion sensor ) the computer uses this signal to referance fuel injector operation and synchronize spark plug fireing on distributorless ignitions .

Speaking of codes, what sort of code reader is needed for this type of truck, and where is the diagnostic port located to plug it into?
thanks alot

You can use three way for reading codes: scaner, voltmeter or chack engine lamp on your panel. On my truck port is in left top coner

Thank you!
In my book I have only 213 code. 214 is not discribed. Do you have a link on full code table?

there used to be a listing of all codes and there discriptions but have not found it so no link to give ya . if you gota code and need a explaination i got a actron code reader and the book that came with the tester that has all the codes listed . the haynes manual also has a full listing of codes as well .

obd 1 system ,the code reader i have is made by "actron" just your plain jane basic reader that has led's and a piezo speaker....29.00 at advance auto.there is another one that they sell for about $10-20 more (which i did not see at the time i bought mine ) that has a lcd display to read system code .....imho much better than trying to make sence out of code from beeps and lights flashes.

look at advance auto's web site and see if they still sell that reader .in my opion i would go ahead and spend the little extra on it compared to the basic actron reader i have ....will make your life alot easier when doing codes.

Aleks26: There's a fairly complete list of EEC-IV codes put together by BrooklynBay in the EEC-IV forum here. Or put Ford EEC-IV codes into your favorite search engine and you should be able to find several other lists (I like the lists at www.troublecodes.net). Also be sure to put code 214 or similar into this site's search engine, as this code has been discussed, sometimes in great detail, several times.

Wait a second, one person says OBD-1 and another says EEC-IV. Those are different systems and readers from what I know.

same system.the code reader i was wanting at advance auto is part # 3145 made by "equus" obd-1 code reader with lcd display for $ 29.99 ( looks like they played around with the price's some .when i bought mine it was 29.99 and now it $ 31 now the new one tha has a lcd display is that price ...go figure they would mark up the price on the crappier one than the good one .
