Miles to E keeps changing

Hi folks, we have a 2005 Explorer XLT with about 135k miles. It has always displayed the Miles to E as a constant number that reduces as you drive. This morning my wife said the number kept changing, like from 160 to 162, to 164 and back to 160. Is that an indication of a computer problem or is it just an anomaly that we've never noticed before? I've seen other makes do that with the M to E display, but we have 3 Fords and none of them do that (until now).

It could be a dirty sending unit. I doubt it’s a computer issue. I’d run some Techron, it other quality fuel system cleaner through it. I probably wouldn’t worry about it too much, since it’s not really a super accurate number, anyways.

Has this issue on my Subaru when I got a tank of bad gas (high sulfur?). A bottle of fuel cleaner fixed it in one tank
