On Ebay several vendors are selling +20 HP chips for Explorers. Are they for real, do they work? What are peoples experiences with them?

no, they are a IAT resistor.. they do bad things to EFI and are a waste of money....

I have the same truck as you, a 92. I was told my the manufacture (Apten) that I could get a decent power and mileage gain but I will have to use priemum gas to go along with the new chip! Apten is the most recommended chip here. Down side is that we have a EEC-N computer and is does NOT control the trannie. So no upgrading of the trannie can be done with a chip.
I was also told to stay away from all those BARGAN chips by some people that have bought them.

I think those cheapo resitors work by making your computer think it needs more fuel than it does. As a result you will have a small boost in power but it is not worth it to be running rich all the time. It will only lead to all kinds of probelms with other things.

If you are gonna get a chip, get an APTEN
