Moisture in mirror marker lamp

A Left Mirror Turn Lite Has Water
Remove mirror for access to replace left turn light. The left turn signal had water in mirror

Maybe the key is to use the word water vs moisture.

No issues here getting it changed. Maybe try and have Cory escalate, its a $80 part for crying out loud.

So today I got my Ex back from the dealer WITHOUT the mirror lenses being changed.

They provided a Ford Engineering document that says this IS A NORMAL CONDITION!

So moisture in a light lens is normal apparently, funny because I thought moisture and electrical parts were actually not compatible.

So before I start this fight can anyone provide their Service invoice description from having their's replaced?

The Service Advisor said "Just because a few guys on some forum got theirs replaced doesnt mean its a legit issue"

After having the passenger side replaced in March, the driver side also developed moisture. It was replaced May 16.My dealer does not consider this to be a normal condition and Ford does not seem to think so either.Ford approved the replacement within a half hour of the dealer contacting them.

Refer your dealer to page 83 of your owners manual " Examples of unacceptable moisture"

Here's what the manual says about condensation in the lamp assembly:

Lamp assembly condensation
Exterior lamps are vented to accommodate normal changes in pressure.
Condensation can be a natural by-product of this design. When moist air
enters the lamp assembly through the vents, there is a possibility that
condensation can occur when the temperature is cold. When normal
condensation occurs, a thin film of mist can form on the interior of the
lens. The thin mist eventually clears and exits through the vents during
normal operation. Clearing time may take as long as 48 hours under dry
weather conditions.
Examples of acceptable condensation are:
• Presence of thin mist (no streaks, drip marks or droplets)
• Fine mist covers less than 50% of the lens
Examples of unacceptable moisture (usually caused by a lamp water
leak) are:
• Water puddle inside the lamp
• Large water droplets, drip marks or streaks present on the interior of
the lens
Take your vehicle to a dealer for service if any of the above conditions of
unacceptable moisture are present.

Thanks

That paragraph is what showed up on the document they provided as a reason for not replacing the lamp housings.

I will take photos and send to Customer Service.

It's clearly beyond a light mist inside those lenses.

Use a pressure washer and saturate till there is def water in there. I cannot believe that this is acceptable and from what I remember of mine its was droplets and they did not go away after 48 hours and thats before we started getting the really humid and wet weather now. So far the replacement has given me no issues. I think what we are seeing alot on the Ex is poor supplier quality control: bad gaskets, bad fans, bad mirror lamps. Unfort we're all paying for their lack of quality.

So you guys tell me if this constitutes more then a thin film of moisture?

Go back there and slap the living **** out of them. Totally unacceptable. Seriously. You've got to be kidding me. Do they all wear hockey helmets? Come on. That's total BS. Cory or Seni, you've got to get on this dealer. He's giving Ford a bad name.

Sgt1411,this is all Ford needs to see ,to replace your lamps. This is the way mine looked when a digital picture was sent to Ford, from my dealer.Approval for replacement was given right away.Your dealer is not following Ford's policy on this matter. If he will not replace with this evidence, than pm Cory and have Ford Customer Service contact the dealer. This is not the type of dealer Ford needs selling their products.

I know I posted this earlier in the thread but it might have been buried a bit. I agree with chimoman and GTMD to send me your VIN, dealer name, and approximate mileage in a private message so I can help with this issue. Because you live in Canada, you also have the option to call the Ford of Canada Customer Relationship Center (1-800-565-3673) and speak directly with an agent about the concern.

hey all...i just spoke with customer care at ford because my explorer has had these issues almost since day one. i am on my third passenger side mirror and second driver's side. what customer care told me is that they are starting to 'index' the problem which means that once they get enough complaints about it, they will open an investigation into the part design which could result in a redesign so we can all get some mirror signals that don't leak water. but everyone who has this problem has to call the customer service line and let ford know that they are having an issue. if enough people don't complain, no investigation, no new part. here is their number: 866-631-3788.

Hi:
Had the same problem with both mirrors, the dealer repaired it the problem seems to be fixed.

Mine too.... 2011 Golden Bronze Limited

Add me to the list. Thanks for the part number.

Had mine in today. Both had condensation. Dealer took some pics and said they will replace both mirrors. The whole assembly? is that correct? Or do they just replace the marker lamp?

i have had both done. one occasion the dealer replaced everything--the whole assembly, i assume in the hope that it would solve the problem. it didn't.

i just had my passenger side light replaced again. that one seems to be the problem one for me. this is my third replacement.

Mine is going in this Friday for the passenger side....when I took in earlier (scheduled maintenance visit) the service tech stated that they would need to order and replace the entire assembly with the exception of the painted cover which gets put back on.

I wish they could redesign them so that they didn't have the air inside. Maybe a solid clear piece with the LED's mounted into the plastic. No gaps for moisture to collect.
