Moisture problem

Mechanics....please help.
Vehicle is not starting due to moisture ( hours and hours of rain and has had this problem in the past) . Tried taking apart the distributor and drying with hair dryer 9 hs worked in past) , car sounds like its close but still won't start. Mechanic suggested spraying the ignition wires and distributor with WD40 to displace moisture......can't get a hold of mechanic again, but unsure of exactly where to spray....inside distributor?? Need a quick response if possible. THnks
