monoleaf to leafpack conversion, a little help...

Alright, so I decided to do a leaf pack swap for my 00 sport monoleaf. I found a few in the junk yard and I really want to make the exchange, but I had a few concerns. Would a 91-94 leafpack fit my 00 sport? I found one in really good shape, practically no rust and someone already too the rearend so half the work is done. What do you guys think?

They'll fit. Appearance wise they might look OK, but how do you know they haven't passed their prime? The rule I thumb I followed when I did the same thing for my '00 Sport (before I sold it), was to get them from as new an Ex as possible and as low miles as possible. I ended up with a '96 and 60,000 miles. and I thought those were old. Might want to find out how many miles are on the set you're looking at.
 






yup, you have to remember that Explorers rear end springs sag a lot - you don't want to put all that together and then have to get an add-a-leaf.

yeah, I was worried about them being past their prime, but then I thought, I would rather have a leafpack past its prime than a monoleaf past its prime. Before I did my shackles, my rearend was sagging a little bit. What would you do, stick with a sagging monoleaf, or change it over to a leafpack? I just want the rearend to be stiffer.
 






Explodersport - You have one of the funniest signatures I've read! Anyway, I moved this to the Modified 95-01 section because where it was (in Underhood and driveline) it didn't relate at all.

haha, thanks buddy. I could take a good look at a butcher by sticking my head up a bull... Good to see you are a moderator now. I think you were one of the first to answer some of my questions when I first started. Lemme know next time you go wheelin, hopefully I could join you.

Also, did you do anything to your lower shock mounts to bring them up close to the axle? I was thinking of relocating mine because they are easily the lowest point under my car.
 






I did my 91 X sport. We used a set of springs from a 91 Navajo (my parts truck) with about 80,000 miles. My X had about 175,000 miles. Well it fixed the sag and gave me like 3-inch of lift in the rear. It tool about three hours of shop labor. Check the J. C. Whitney catalog. New springs are cheap.
 






I'll check it out, I think it is hard to beat a set of leaf springs for $20.
 






wow. new the site and amazed!! just can't find answer i need. maybe you all can help. 2000 sport 4.0 sohc 122K on clock. ground to wheel well measures 34.5" in front and 32.25" in rear. what is my best bet for fix? keep in mind when ditched last year, driver side torsion bar was pulled loose by tow truck. also ride quality is bad (mad bounce in rear) which new shocks on all four corners did not fix.
 






The sag is pretty common, you can fix it with shackles and maybe a little bit of a TT up front to match if needed. As for the bounce, I dunno. I did a TT, shackles, and new shocks, then had tires balanced and it fixed my wobble at about 70 MPH. It still wobbles a little mostly from the 33" tires, but not the death wobble that it used to do. I would get it aligned and check the tires to make sure it didnt throw a weight and then look at the suspension.
 






I got my set off a first gen for my Sport and it worked out perfect. Saved a good bit of money too. The back end was up in the air with no weight on the axle, so I supose that helped some. :)
