more about fuel milage?!

I just got back fro my little road trip, about 4.5 hrs of mountian driving (I live in BC!) I just calculated my MPG for highway driving, allbeit not flat driving, but I got around 25 MPG.

I have a 4.0, 3.73 rear end, and 31's on the stock rims. So I'm quite happy with that.

I also did the MAF cleaning, and it totaly fixed my studdering acceleration. Great tip guys! Thanks!:D

Your kidding right? 25mpg in the mountians? If that's true, you should be getting somewhere around 30mpg on flat highway use!

I'm thinking you meant 25 KPG, not mpg. No way you're gettin 25 mph thru the mountains!

Wow, you guys are getting 11 and 12 mpg's with the SOHC. Now you have experienced the 5.0 without the expense of buying it. But really I cut open my airbox 2 tanks ago and before the mod I was at 12.9. The 1st tank with the heavy foot feeling the new mid-range power and hearing the 5.0 breath I got 13.6. The 2nd tank just gave me 14.5 with some highway.

How accurate is the odometer with the 31 tires?

I got 15.7mpg on the last tank. I used to be gettin 13mpg, but that was when i let it warm up for 10 minutes before i went to school. Now that it finally warmed up here im gettin good milage. I also try to keep it under 2500rpm, except when i get slow people in front of me. Then i let the big bad 4.0bark:D

If my math is right, here are my numbers...

Distance traveled: 303.4 km
Litres Used: 33.78

I plugged the numbers into some website and it told me I'm getting 25.15 MPG.

They're off by a good bit...

303.4 km = 188.524 miles
33.78 L = 8.924 gallons

So your MPG = 188.524/8.924 = 21.126 MPG...

If I were getting that type of MPG's I wouldn't be complaining...

21 mpg on the highway with a 4.0 OHV and a 4-door is _very good_ mileage for these vehicles.

Factory spec is 20 mpg highway for the at year and engine.

fyi I am getting 14/19 generally...

I saw that someone had crappy mileage when it was cold. I've heard that if your thermostat is failed open this will cause your engine to run rich to try and get it to the 195 mark. Thus, more gas, less mpg.

If I'm wrong, someone tell me.

19.5+ in my 97 OHV W/140K this summer

That was loaded with stuff (even had an extension carrieron) on a 3 week vacation through PA and NY, 2200 miles with local driving. 19.7 for the first leg of 900 miles and 19.5 for the return with some city driving. And I run a 180 thermostat. Though that doesn't make much difference in the summer.
