The programing does work the chip on ebay tricks your engine into thinking it is cold and it does incrase power but the milage will drop. I personaly dont recomend this . Thats just me. The programer does cost more but everyone I know with one loves it.

Programmer....

Is there one for the 02 XLT 4.0? my Google-fu is failing me i can only find one for the '04. Would that one work for the 02?

If your really looking for more horses for less maybe you should try here

I guess it is all about what you are used to. I have the 4.0 in mine and I am happy with its power. I have the tow package so maybe the gearing helps a bit. I had a Toyota Tundra with a V8 before the Explorer so it is not like I am used to driving weak cars.

I am in a similar situation. I just sold my 2001 Dodge 1500 with a 5.2L Magnum V8 (230hp stock and about 254hp with my mods). The X's 4.0L V6 is rated at 210hp and 254ft-lbs of torque, and it would have smoked my truck.

I think that anyone looking for a little more out of there vehicle needs to start with the basics...exhaust, intake, make sure your plugs are fresh. On the last four rigs I have had, those were my starting points and they work.
