If you look the cats have a flange on either end and can be unbolted for removal.

or...

you can pull the carpet back and get to it from the top.

if you use the sawsall - just cut the bolts- like MrBoyle said: the cat has flanges. You can cut the flange bolts and drop the cat down.

Good Luck

thanks for the input guys and im gonna prolly pull the saw out and cut the bolts tomorrow
and i dont think theres an access panel in the floor from looking at it
should there be 2 cats on it?

There is an access panel in the floor, which would be opened up if your Ex was a manual. I replaced my VMV by removing the driver's seat (already had passenger out for other work), pulling the carpet back, and removing the access panel, which then provides you with direct access to the VMV. I think the panel was held down with 4 8mm bolts. You could probably leave one of the seats in for this job, I just took both of them out to make it easier. Took me about an hour to do. The hardest part is getting the new VMV back into the transmission in the correct position with the pin in place.

hey sport was your valve on the passenger side right?
i looked underneath the car and didnt see anything but i will look again
plmk thanks

Yes, it was on the passenger side.

man thanks alot for the info on the access panel:D

but now there is a problem with how its shifting
at takeoff it shudders like hell and dosent like to go int the next gear
there is an adjustment screw on the valve itself but how do i know what to set it at?
plmk thanks

You put the pin from the old VMV into the new one and lubed the new VMV with ATF before putting it in, right?
My VMV with the adjustment screw came preset to the right setting from the factory... All I can tell you is that it was about the middle of it's range. I believe that turning the screw counterclockwise makes the tranny shift sooner, and turning it clockwise makes it shift later.
