I am looking for the cheapest way to get more power out of my 98 5.0. I was wondering what parts work and what parts don't. Any thoughts? My EX is basically stock.

KKM intake
cat back exhaust
chip or programmer

Good luck

Actually, the cheapest way to get more power out of your 5.0L is to throw out everything that is non-essential out of the vehicle to lighten the load. Sure, this is a smartass answer, but it's truthful too.

Explorers generally weigh in at the low to mid 4000 pound range. Drop the extra seats, spare tire, use aftermarket bumpers, less fuel in your tank, etc. If getting off the line fast is what you're trying to do, weight reduction might actually be your cheapest solution. If you don't need it, remove it.

Using synthetic fluids may also allow you to use what power you have more efficiently. Using a 0W-30 synthetic motor oil, as well as synth tranny fluid and differrential fluid will probably give you back a few percent that you're losing with standard fluids, if you're using standard fluids right now.

An electric fan is probably more efficient than your belt driven one, a small change, but it might help.

Mostly just thinking out loud.

I am running syn fluids, but my EX is a family hauler so the the weight problem is going to be there. Where can I find a KKM intake? Who makes the best programmer for my EX?

Intake

Does KKM carry MAF's? Does the MAF really make that much of a difference? I can't seem to get KKM's web page to work. What about throttle bodies and the air intake tube?

You've got a '94. The OHV has more mods. You should mod in this order: Intake (KKM), Exhaust, 66mm BBK TB, Pro-M MAF, Apten/SCT chip. I did the Apten before the TB and MAF but if I had waited I think I would've gotten a better response. The MAF gave barely any gain. I've got Borla headers, which I don't recommend (or any headers for that matter) unless you're supercharging. And I would NEVER recommend Pacesetter.

Kustomz only carries intake kits. I've got a custom intake (rerouted to the other side and much shorter). The tube KKM offers is more just for show.

When you say intake what exactly do you mean? The only thing I have purchased from KKM is the S&B Conical Air Filter. Do they have custom intake tubes from the MAF to the TB that I don't know about?

They've got a metal tube for show that you can buy.

If ya want a little bit of bling bling the MAC intake from www.explorerexpress.com is both georgous and effective

If I go Throttle Body only (right now), am I going to run into problems if I don't have other items such as exhaust, or MAF yet? Can anybody tell me what they paid for their 66mm BBK TB?

Can someone also explain Catback exhaust to me? Does this include the Cat itself?

YEAHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!! 25 POSTS!!! HURRAY FOR ME!!!!

No, a cat-back exhaust does not include the catalytic converter. It includes everything after the cat (From the cat back. Cat-back.)

Go with KKM intake and exhaust first.
