Noticed a small amount of Power Steering fluid on the garage floor. Anybody got a tip where to check first. Obivously the steering gear's a likley culprit. But am new to this ex thing and just trying to get a feel.

thx in advance

I've had the following leaks from the power steering..

From the cap.. espeically if you turn the steering wheel with the truck off.. replace the cap AND don't turn the wheel when the truck is off..

From the o-ring on the pressure hose.. - over time the hose moves and the o-ring may give out.. (I replaced the o-ring once.. didn't fix it well.. replaced the hose and all is fine)

Steering box seal where the pitman arm connects.. I never resealed my box.. I just threw on a spare box that didn't leak.. no idea how hard it is to reseal the box..

The factory return hose was leaking a while ago.. I jsut replace it with transmission hose.. its not high pressure, but I use ATF in my power steering.

Hopefully it just the cap as thats the easiest to fix (The "help" section at auto parts stores carry the cap).

Perfect, will check that stuff out.

Already replaced the cap, would be nice though.

Thx Maniak

btw, if thats your truck in your avatar I have the exact one, color and all. Not that weird I guess seeing as where Im posting.

you might want to ignore it. Leaks are fairly common on ford systems. You could try the stop leak products.
