I have an 04 explorer sport 4x4 4.0L. I can't remeber if I noticed this before. When in park, the motor will not rev beyond 3K rpm. I took it out and drove it and it reved right up to near redline before shifting and seemed to run ok. Earlier today I cleaned the radiator and the engine compartment out real well but blew all the water out with an airhose afterwards. I even removed the maf sensor and cleaned that.

So is that normal not to rev beyond 3K in park? Any ideas?

Thanks,

Chris.

Never understimat the search function. I didnt think anyway this would be here but I found it. Rev limiter in neutral or park for the automatic. Duh. Anyway, great site guys lots of good info here. Just finished switching all fluids out to amsoil and will be changing the fuel filter and plugs and wires later this week. Thanks for all the great info guys.

Chris.

The PCM has a rev limiter in N and P.

The limiters can be removed/adjusted via a computer tune file.

When was that added? I can rev my 02 in P or N.

It has been there since the implementation of EECV.

What can you rev yours too? And why would anyone want to? Do you have a PCM tune?

Got it new, never had a PCM tune.

Once or twice by accident and once after motor swap, 4-5kish
