All,

I just finally installed my new Motorcraft Spark plugs, but now I have a quick question.

When I pulled out the old plugs they were Motorcraft model# AWSF 42PP,,, which also shows on the sticker inside my engine compartment.

Now I just put in the new spark plugs which are the Motorcraft Double Platium plugs model# AGSF 42EEM.

Ok,,, now the old originals that were in there,,, can anyone tell me if those are just the single platium plugs??
If so thats cool. I was hoping that the plugs I got in there are ok to run... b/c when I was at autozone the get the new Motorcraft Double Plats it showed in there computer that they are OEM plugs.
I just want to make sure I got the plugs that are correct for my 96 X ( 4.OL ).

If anyone can confirm that its all ok.. that be great.
Oh BTW... test drove the rig and felt like a new Motor in there :)

Thanks
Mike

96-: My 93 had single platium from the factory. Replaced them at 95K with Motorcraft double platium. Could not tell much difference in performance. The old plugs that came out still looked good at 95K. Overall, I have found it is best, for me at least, to stay with Motorcraft parts. Good luck. Mike

yea,,, mine has almost 90K on it and when I pulled the plugs out.. they looked good and the tips looked fine. I had no idea when the original spark plugs or wires were removed,, but I just felt I should do it,,, so now I can keep track when it will be needed to be replaced again. Well hopefully it X will be trouble free when I go the next 60K miles :)

Thanks

Both the single plats and double plats are registered OEM parts. My motor had half singles and half doubles from the factory.

Yeah, you will notice on many engines after 94 or 95 will have two different plugs in them as Ford figured out fuel injection and distributorless ignition to where they could determine which electrode was sending and which was receiving the spark and other stuff like that. Saving a little platinum meant saving big bucks for Ford.

thats a pitty by Ford.
I know the double plats I got were only $2.99 each and the reg plats were 1.99 each.... so that was too much for ford to spend. WoW..... lol

If they save $3.00 on each Explorer, on 25,000 trucks, they will save $75,000!

Which of course means they can buy more plastic, which in turn means more cupholders and more plastic on the doors on the 2002 X's:(

.... and it might , just might, make my Ford stick worth more.....

I stopped into my dealership today to buy some spark plugs for my SOHC. I left with nothing because I didnt have 60 bucks on me. He said they are double platinum plugs and will be good till about 100K. I have about 56K on it now and I have heard that the wires usually crap out around 60K. Maybe I'll do them soon.
