My niece has a 2007 Mountaineer just like mine. She just called and said when leaving a gas station and pulling on to the street her mountaineer suddenly wouldn't go forward no matter how much she pushed on the gas. She turned it off and restarted it and it would move forward very slowly regardless of throttle. It gets weirder. She got it to go for a few hundred feet and then it would coast downhill just fine as long as she didn't give it gas. Got it into a hotel parking lot luckily. More weird, it will back up just fine! Moving forward under power is the only issue. Tried turning off traction control, no difference. Tried 4x4, no difference. Any suggestions or help is greatly appreciated.

Did you try it in manual 2?

Tried it in manual 1. Would manual 2 be different? I'll have her try manual 2 and 3 tomorrow morning and see if there is any difference. She seemed to think there may be a problem with the driver front. I initially thought stuck caliper but the coasting fine and no issue in reverse has me baffled. No dash warning lights at all either.

Manual 2 in the older models would force it to start in second gear. I’m not sure if the newer ones will since “2nd” gear is 1st gear with the converter locked up.

I'm thinking maybe low on transmission fluid or something with internal to it - servo adjustment or, and I hate to go there but, bad transmission.

Is this a V6 or a V8 model?

Sprag.

Does this help?

Traction control ? ABS sensor ? It would that to you, did it to me. If the restart works for a little, it's electrical.

Turns out it was a left front wheel bearing. Not sure if it was the bearing itself or the abs/speed sensor or sensor ring. Either way, $500 and 3 hours later and she was on her way and made it the rest of her trip uneventfully. Note: she called the Ford dealer 5 miles away and they said they wouldn't even look at it for a week! Called the Honda dealer across the street and they had a mechanic come in on Saturday and take care of her. Not a good look Ford!! Anyway, thank you all for your help. Hopefully this may help someone else out in the future if they have a similar issue.

I used to have a 2 week wait time, working 5 1/2 days a week. That
does not count "pals" and relatives.
Please do not judge.
Thanks for letting EVERYONE know of the solution!!

This might be an indication of brand build quality. Ford techs are loaded with work while Honda techs are looking for work. Even if it is a Ford.

I don't know about his area but it might have more to do with brand quantity. I my area you are likely to see 30-40 Fords vs 1 Honda. Another piece is the amount of mechanics employed at each. It seems like there is a shortage of mechanics anymore.

Second is 1st with OD engaged

There is a shortage of trade workers all around. People don't seem to want to get their hands dirty anymore. Even if they can make well into a six fugure salary. They would rather work a cash register for minimum wage.
