Anyone have any ideas about moving the Trip Computer and screen on a 2000 EB??

I would love to relocate it so I could put a video screen there and an XBOX somewhere else. I aleady have a great HU and 1/5 din EQ in factory spot so I really dont want to replace the HU with a flip out.

Wouldnt it be cool if that data from the trip computer could be displayed on the new monitor! I really hate that green dot matrix display :thumbdwn:

i really don't think it'd fezable(sp?) to try and do this..why not get sun visor lcd screen's?..it's what i plan to do

Its feasable, anything is feasable :D

A local car audio shop once called Microsoft about taking apart the XBOX and putting the disk tray in dash, the controler ports with remote eye in dash but the rest of it stowed away. Microsoft said it could not be done and that the XBOX was not suitible for a car environment.

The shop when ahead and figured it out on there own and the car, a 2003 Vette, was featured in Car Audio and Electronics.

I am sure they could move this trip computer but I dont want to pay $1000 for them to do it. Just wondering if someone here had tried the same adventure.

Thanks.

I did something similar in my old car. I moved all of the A/C controls to the spot where the ash tray was so I could mount a nitrous pressure guage and a fuel pressure guage. It's just a matter of taking the screen etc. out and extending the wires and mounting it somewhere else - like in the glove compartment. It's just one of those things that you have to tear it apart and look and it and then decide if it can be done!

Good luck!
;)

It's all electronic, so all you have to do (in theory) is extend some wires.

Yeah - what I said and then Hartman tried to take credit for... ;) j/k

I think it can be easily done - try it!

Anyone have pics?

The microsoft thing doesn't surprise me at all. They are totally against people modding their product (even though the people "own" the physicall box). I could pretty much gaurentee that's why they said it couldn't be done. I've seen people make a pumpkin into a computer....anything is possible!

Just talk'n
CP :D

Hartman... while extending the wires is feasible... there are about 4 million (no exaggeration) wires connected to that display. Extending + running all 4 million wires would be a huuuggeee hassle.

That being said, if you move the computer, make sure to get plenty of pictures and do a writeup on it =P

This is when I installed my remote start... you can see the bundle of the 4 million wires going to the display thingy. Dont let the picture fool you... there ARE 4 million wires in that bundle:D

he's right..there's a TON of little wires..i mean ALOT!

I concur. :D

Checkin back to see if this has been done

Has anyone move the trip computer in an Eddie Bauer?

Now I really want to do a Carputer and use that area for an 8" touchscreen monitor.....
