I have the stock Ford/Visteon mp3 player in my '05 Explorer. I enjoy burning podcasts from Itunes store on cd and listening while commuting. The problem is when I stop for gas, etc., recycle ignition off/on, it goes back to the beginning of a one hour podcast instead of the proper point within. It does remember the proper point if I cycle the player off/on control, as long as I don't also cycle the ignition off/on. Any solutions short of hacking in an external battery and steering diodes? Seems like there should be a modified T100 cable that keeps the player powered no matter what the key position is. Surely others have this problem.

Easy solution. Take wire from T100 J1 pin 10 run/accy and move to T100 J1 pin 9 batt+ HU will be always-on unless HU's power switch is off. Warning: may discharge battery if you forget to turn HU off.

After much expermentation, the only solution I have found is indeed an external 12v 2.6 AH sealed gel cell connected via two steering diodes. The main problem is the player dies when you start the engine, drawing down BAT to under 9v for a second or two. The radio/cd player draws 1.4amps whenever the cd is spinning, which is all the time, with my mod. To avoid draining the car battery, you also want a switch that returns to factory wiring, when you don't need the podcast "save place" feature. To avoid cutting factory harness, I bought fwd and rev pigtail adapters from here:
