Has anyone put a msd unit on there 97 or newer 4 lit explorer as im trying to find out what works as the price i was told was close to 500 and change as the ignition has three coils.

The stock ignitions are actually quite good on our Explorers. I wouldn't bother adding an MSD, it's not necessary unless you are making tons of horsepower. Ford used distributorless ignition in the explorer, so the typical MSD box used on old cars won't work.

I'm sure MSD makes stuff for DIS applications, but don't waste your money.

Cool thaks!
Found out that MSD does make a unit but is $450.00 canadian dollars and has a ton of features such as rev control etc.
So I took off my K&N and ordered a new fipk kit for the Ex.

cheers
Andrew
