Installed my Thunderform tonight! I'm very impressed. Similar to Al in his previous posts, I was looking for SQ not window-blowing bass. For those of you thinking about the thunderform, it is worth it. And it kicks out alot more bass than I thought it would.

Worth the money....my .02

Thanks for the info and congratulations on the new install.

Install

I had a buddy run the remote turn on and power leads back to the cargo area (would have taken me 5x as long).
After getting the panel off (and u don't need to take as much off as MTX's instructions say), it was a very quick mounting process (a few screws and 3 brackets). Ran RCAs from my HU, made sure the sub worked, and clipped the panel back on. At most, shouldn't take more than a few hours.
One tip I'll offer, MTX's instructions say to screw the "grill" for the sub from the back of the panel but you shouldn't need to. That panel sits so tight, friction should do it's work here, besides, this allows a good access point (i.e. you don't need to take the panel off for any occcasional adjustments or necessary fuse changes).

How much of the pannel did you actually have to remove?

Any pics of the install?

What size power wire did you use?

Thanks....

Install con't

Took the rear scuff plate off, unclipped entire rear panel but didn't need to take seatbelt off or unclip rear passanger trim panel at top.

Sorry, no pics of the install process (didn't think about it). I can send a pic of the finished product with the grill removed if any interest.

One more thing about this sub/amp...it does hit hard if you want it to!

Power wire used was the one that came with the enclosure, not sure of the gauge.

Good...that's as far as I've ever taken the panel off. Glad to hear you like it - I'll probably buy one early spring. My RCAs and power/ground are already routed back there, so the install should be easy.

2 questions:

1. How do you attach the mounting brackets to the body of the Explorer?

2. I thought I read once (maybe on rec.audio.car) that the Thunderform squeezes really tight against the taillight. True? (Of course, our X's are a few years apart).

Glad you like it, and thanks for sharing.

Con't

The clips screw right into the lip above the well and then into the sub enclosure.

As for fit, it is snug but doesn't push into the taillights.

Thanks, sounds good.

I want one :( For now, I just ordered a Kicker c6.5d sub to replace my blown factory sub...

Yeah I've heard that the MTX Thunderforms are pretty good. Did you buy it online...if so how much did it run?

I got mine at Crutchfield for $449.

Ordered @ Cruthchfield

I too got mine from Crutchfield.

      x 1000

You could have gotten a nice pair of 12 inch subs for that. Sheesh.

Maybe, just, maybe, we got what WE wanted.... But thanks for your kind advise nevertheless.

I understand you wanted the "stealth" look or something, but man $500 dollars for a 10 (or 12, whichever it is) inch sub is just ridiculous if you ask me. I'm not knocking anybody.

$449 is for the sub, enclosure and amp. It's well worth the money for people that actually need the cargo space.

I found the Thunderform for $310, don't know anything about the company but if they are good then the price is great.
here is the link and if anyone has used this company let me know, the X is at the bottom of the list.

I tried to order from them but I did not get any response. They are probably out of business :(
