I am going to get new rims soon and I was wanting to know all of your opinions on what rims I should get. Either 17 or 18 inch, chrome or silver Cobra R's on my 1996 XLT 5.0 and it is all black in color. I have heard that 18's can ride a little harder than the 17's, but is it really that bad if you upgrade the shocks etc? What size do you guys recommend going with to avoid as much rubbing as possible and what would look the best?

go with 18's and get 'em chrome. i just dont like the silver on a black truck, IMHO. also, if i had 18 R's on mine, i dont think they would have rubbed, due to the larger diameter not hitting the lower control arm at full turn. tire size will depend on what you want to do. if you want to lower it with stock height tire, go with a 275/45/18 i believe (not up on 18" tire sizes.) the stock tires are 28" tall. if you want something different, and dont have a AWD, you could get some Nitto's and run 255/55 front and 285/50 rear. they will both be 29" tall, and would look cool with the extra width in the rear. i have 255 front and 275 rear on mine, and i like the look. barely noticable, just gives it more of a "sport" look. many others here will recommend Toyo Proxes. they are also a d@mn good tire.

I can tell you that the 18 inch Cobras will not rub on the rim but the tire will rub at full lock. Mine actually rubbed the UPPER control arm. I fixed this by grinding a bit off the upper control arm. If the rubbing is minimal, it can be resolved fairly easily. Nitto and Toyo Proxes are both great tires, you'd probably be happy with either one.
