You want your v-6 to sound like a v-8? Sorry, but it ain't gonna happen Dead Link Removed The only recommendation I have is to put a new muffler on....a Flowmaster, Dynomax, etc. It won't sound like a 5 liter v-8, but it will sound a lot better than stock.

First try using a K&N air filter with a modifyed air box. It will increase your performance a bit but not that much.
On the bottom portion cut out the sides leaving the corners as support. The sound created will be much to your satisifaction! I can hear my truck!
I have heard that the Flowmaster 40? will also do a good job. However I cannot back that up.

Ok this is EXACTLY how to get your Explorer to sound like a Mustang, it may require a decent chunk of change, but here goes:
1) Go to a junk yard and find a Mustang that has been totaled, but the engine is still in perfect working order.
2) Buy this motor and take it home, and find a good shop to put it in your Explorer. Take special care to get all the accesories that go along with the engine(AC,Power steering pump,....)
3) Take the 'Stang motor to a GOOD shop, and have them install it in your Explorer.

I guarantee if you do this, your Explorer will sound EXACTLY like a Mustang.

Good Luck, if you do it let me know how easy it is, b/c that would be AWESOME to have an Explorer with a Mustang motor in it.

your best bet is to put on a 2 chamber flowmaster with 2.25 pipe both in and out. If you want it a little louder have 2.5 pipe out. Have that set up with a high flow cat and some headers and you should be fairly close. Your not going to get the nice low rumble, but you'll get close. Alot of people think i have a v-8 by the sound. If you buy the KKM intake it also gives you a nice sound when you open it up. With that and the exhaust it will be very nice.

Yeah I got the KKM intake kit and I guess it might have helped a tad. But I got a glasspack put on and I hate it, and was just kind of lookin for a little depper exhaust sound. I would love to put a nice mustang 5.0 in mine, but I don't think it's gonna happen. Way too much money. But anyways, thanks for all your help, I was thinking probably going with the Flowmaster 2-chamber muffler.

or you could just buy a Mustang....... Dead Link Removed
