98 Mountaineer
Hi, i am new to this forum and joined today to see if anybody could help with my 98 mountaineer intermittent start problem. It has me puzzled and i need it to get me to work. First of it is a 4.0 sohc auto, The no start condition seems to happen more when its cold but im not certain becuse its done it to me a few times in the warm. the motor cranks fine, has 40psi fuel pressure and spark. I have found through troubleshooting that if you unplug the crank sensor then crank the motor with the key then plug the sensor back in it will normally start but run rough for a few seconds. today it will not start at all

i have replaced the sensor and checked out the plug and wiring as far as i could see the thing that confuses me is i have to crank the motor with the sensor unpluged before i can plug it back in and have it start

where did you buy the senser you may got a bad one

i would try to return it autozone are known to have bad eletrical parts napa or motorcraft from the dealer is your best bet

yea could be, but what are the chances of both crank sensors giving an intermittent start

i just found at there is no ground to the iac and only .4v to the cam sensor the book says there should b 1.5 could this be a computer problem?

i have seen sensers work one min then the next not work i have pushed the plugs got them to start the senser has one way resistor battery can cause the low voltage
