After reading alot of posts that have nothing good
to say about the 4.0 SOHC, I just wanted to write
and say that my 1998 SOHC Explorer idles very
smooth and quiet and as for the rest of the truck,
I have only replaced 2 dash bulbs and thats all.

I think some of the people are really hard on their
vehicles and then when they break it is all Fords
fault.

And one more thing, I tow in overdrive

1998 Explorer
4.0 SOHC
Auto 5spd
4.10
4X4
60,000 miles

i dont have any probs with mine either (except this annoying little vibration in the "velocitator", which means the 'gas pedal' for everyone who doesnt watch the simpsons, which ford assures me is nothing, but im sure just after my extended warranty is over, some major mechanical component will fall out, but i think thats only being realistic, right?) i love my sohc :) i wish there were more mods though.

I agree other than the vibration and the few recalls I love the SOHC.

The decelematrix doesn't vibrate though. Only the velocitator

yeah, the recalls are a bit disheartening, but i dont mind them, theres only 3 major ones i think, and mine are all taken care of. id rather have ford do it for free and be a pain in the a$$ than for something to go horribly wrong, and have my truck die.

yeah i dont like having to go and give them my truck but i hey it means that i dont have to worry about having to change that. Like the whole tire fiasco. In less than 1 year we had 3 different sets of tires. That just means less money to spend for us.
