My 2002 gets stuck in park.

My 2002 Explorer sometimes gets stuck in park. It just happened at the gas station and I put my foot out and rocked the car a bit and it came right out of gear. If it was something electrical related I don't think rocking it would help right? Also, using the search feature I learned about the slot under the column, just tried it, at least if it happens again I can do that. Any idea on what would cause this? Thank you

the explorer has a shift lock relesed by the break pedal. if there is any pressure on the drive line some times this sticks. the explorer has a problem with the shifter handel breaking off if this happens.you can not buy the part to fix this you have to replace the entire steering coloum if this happens. thanks to cash for clunkers you can get them at the local salvage yard for around $100-$200.
