I have a 97 Eddie Bauer Explorer with control trac 4wd. It is raing today and while driving the 4WD and 4WD Low light on the dash flashed on and off several times. I then noticed that when I switch from "Auto" to High the truck does not shift into that mode, nor when I stop will the truck shift into 4 Low. COuld it be a moisture problem with water getting into something. Where should I begin looking.
Thank you
Scott
p.s. the truck still is in auto 4wd as I tried to spin the tires on gravel and the front wheels kicked in as advertised.

How many times does it blink? 6-times? It is a speed sensor code, do a search and you'll find more on it. You may need to clean out your shift motor.

4WD Switch

It blinks a couple of times on startup then periodically it will blink several times while driving, stop blinking then begin blinking again.
Also what do you meed by a code? Should I be counting the number of blinks and the amount of time between blinks???

Yes, count the number of blinks in the sequence. It should blink x amount of times then wait a while and start the coded blinking again. 6 would be the most common code isued by the GEM which is the computer that operates the 4x4 system as well as a few other things.

^6 Blinks

It flashes 6 times, so it would be code 6. I was wondering that since this just started yesterday after it started raining, and it has been a while since I've driven on wet roads could moisture gotten into the shift motor connector? Or somewhere else?
Thanks
Scott
