Very sad day for me, my baby is totaled... this has been my favorite vehicle i have ever owned, it never let me down.

My wife lost traction while tryimg to brake quickly yesterday during a rainstorm, and slammed the passenger side of my baby into the back of a jeep. the airbags deployed and launched broken glass into her face, but she is ok.

I now have a 1998 5.0 eb explorer with lots of aftermarket mods and 3 almost new 285/75r16 at tires in my driveway...

Here is a list of some of the mods:

Aftermarket sub to replace the factory unit in the factory sub box
4406 manual shift transfer case with all mods that entails and custom transmission mount fabricated by me.

Custom (my first arc welding project, not super pretty) safari rack that bolts on roof.
Light bars and led fog lights / led reverse light, and auxilliary fuse box.

Powertrax no-slip locker in rear diff

Drilled and slotted rotors all the way around, less than 1 year old

Coilover rear shocks, almost new front shocks

Ranger locking hubs in front, new front cv axles and wheel bearings less than 1 year old.

Add a leaf kit for extra lift

Custom shackles for extra lift

Rear trailer hitch, custom front trailer hitch that i made.

Torsion keys

Almost new ac compressor: still blowing cold.

More things i am forgetting right now....

5.0 engine and 4r70w transmission, still working great..

Let me know if you are anywhere close to stockton ca and interested in any of this, i do not have time or space right now to buy another ex and move all these parts over.....

You parting it out?

If so whats cost on the entire engine bay wiring harness and ECU?

PATS module and GEM Module too.

Hunting an NRT1 ECU.

Updating a 86 Mustang.

I may part it out later, if noone close to home is interested in it, but right now i am not parting it out unless you are local and can assist with pulling parts off.

Louisiana.

Kinda a long drive..

If you change your mind PM me.

I'll cover shipping cost if the price is right.

Sorry to hear about the wreck, I hope your wife is good, that's what matters.

I am also too far away. I would like to see the trans mount though.

@CDW6212R

Got my 2WD mount out and sitting on the garage floor if you need any detailed pictures \ dimensions etc.

I'm wondering if he altered just the trans mount, or the cross member too. I'm like everyone else worrying about the weight of the BW4406 on the stock mount. I also have a new OEM mount to use, but would prefer a cross member which can take a common urethane Mustang mount.

I modified the cross member by reinforcing with welded plate steel and used a mustang urethane mount.

Do you have any pictures of how you did it?

I dont right now, i wish i did because i nade some beautiful welds on it lol. I will try to get pictures but it may be a few weeks.

Basically i just took a grinder to the top of the crossmember, cut off enough of it flat, welded a piece of plate steel on it, and drilled it out for the urethane mount.

No rush, do what you have to, to sell that truck.

Good news! I am getting an insurance payout for $4200 and I get to keep the truck! they counted my mods towards the value of the truck, then sold the truck back to me for $300 so I basically got paid for the labor and now I can strip my mods and put them on a new Ex! So now, I am looking for a newer ex, preferably with less than 150k on it. I will post pictures of my cross member and tranny mount mods when I get into ripping it apart.

Excellent, take your time and get what you need from your old truck. I know the feeling of having a car you really liked get killed in a wreck. You'll feel sad about it any time you think of it, so change the subject when it comes up.

Hunt another 98-01 Explorer or Mountaineer, most everything is alike or can be made to work. The high option models are not really more expensive, and often are better taken care of. Avoid a sunroof if you can, and decide which fender flares you like, or really don't like. The 99-01's with full flares running along sides and rear, those flares are different than the 95-98's. Plus the 95-98 Limited's didn't have any fender flares, which is why I got my recent 98. I didn't want the big 99-01 versions, I have them on my 99 and they don't appeal to me.

Good luck on the search, find one that seems to be well taken care of, no major functional issues, interior in nice shape etc.

Good news, I bought a 1998 5.0 mounty 2wd today for $1800, it has 102k miles on it, AC works. It is badly in need of new shocks, and leaking from the oilpan but for $1800 i couldnt pass on it. I am going to be doing a body lift, converting to 4x4 with parts from my old ex, regearing it to 4.56, and if i end up having to pull the engine, I will be putting in torque monsters.

Excellent, that sounds like a bargain. Well done, we look forward to seeing how it works out.

good news...keep us updated on the progress.

I was reading this post and it got pretty sad...then all of a sudden :bounce:!!!

@Jeff213

Did you ever happen to get pictures of your mount set up?

I haven't yet, I have to move my boat to my grandma's house this weekend so I have room to start taking apart my EB in the driveway and moving parts to the mounty. I will post pictures once I get it apart, sorry it is taking so long. I have been doing little things to the mounty after work every day but nothing major yet.
