My 97 Explorer ControlTrac XLT 4WD Is leaking money. Need insight on transmission issue And options

/\ The link OP posted is for a SOHC trans... unless he just typed in "Explorer 4.0" and came to this link.... Poster....which 4.0 do you have?
It’s a SOHC. 5R55E.

I really do appreciate everyones input. But could anyone tell me where this line is supposed to connect so I can at least try? It is rigid , on the left side of the tranny, I figure it’s a cooler line but I don’t know where it connects into the tranny.

First off are we sure this is a sohc? 97 control trac can be ohv as well

Looks like the fluid has been puking out of the vent tube, not good!

I would only consider saving this truck if it’s a ohv 4.0 or the sohc engine has been replaced previously
Is that what this is? A vent tube?

Looks like the vent tube.

The slipping is likely generating so much heat that the fluid is expanding and puking out the vent.

The cooling lines are high up on the right side and run forward to the radiator/aux cooler. Not hard to trace.

It is a vent line
Black sparkly fluid coming out vent line your trans is toast and need remanufactured

The vent line is designed to dump fluid away from the exhaust if the trans ever decides to puke out its contents

The line does not hook up to anything

Yep, I discovered trans fluid is flammable one day, I played hero and ran over with fire extinguisher to a small trans fluid fire that happened suddenly on broken down Bronco down the street from me, some characters stole it and broke down (believe it or not) (it was probably a project and trans gasket or whatever needed addressing big time). I was scratching my head when all the "occupants" started walking away from the vehicle while I was putting it out.... and not coming back! Can't make this stuff up.
