I have a transmission related question.

I am going to replace all the solenoids in my 1999 Ranger 4r44e trans today and would like to know if I have to pull the valve body out of the trans to do this or can I replace them with the valve body still in the trans. Also does anyone know what the torque spec in inch pounds is for the valve body and pan.

You could replace the solenoids without removing the valve body. I've deleted your other thread, and renamed this one. The 5R55E valve body rebuild diary sticky thread in the transmission section has more information.

I got into the truck one morning and put it into reverse and it would not go. It would shift into all other gears just not reverse. I pulled the pan and the fluid looked very clean and there was no metal chunks or other debris in it. So I ordered all new solenoids and filter from MAKCO and installed them all yesterday. i started the truck up and I have the exact same problem as before no reverse but all other gears are shifting. Any help would be great. I have read several of the forms on here but none of them seem to have my problem. Oh yeah the truck only has 50,000 on it

Try looking into a band adjustment!! George

...If you know what tranny you have, there are sticky's at the top of this section that will help you...;)

I have the 4R44E Transmission

...While you are waiting you can look thru the top of this section at what is called the "sticky's"...These are found at the top of each sub-forum and have really good information...

I looked a a couple of them at the top and found this that said The AOD, AODE, 4R70W, C3, C6, A4LD, 4R44E, 4R55E, 5R44E, and 5R55E do not have any adjustment for the low/reverse band.

anyone else have a though on my problem

You don't have any adjustment for the reverse band. Drop the pan, and the cover for the low/reverse servo, and check the tip of the servo for cracks. Insert a long phillips screwdriver into the bore to see if the band has spring action. If these things check out OK, then it could have a sticking reverse modulation valve in the valve body or a blown valve body gasket. Do you have a 4WD? If so, then it could have a problem with the transfer case such as a broken shift fork. Do you have manual 1st gear on the transmission?

Thanks for the reply. I will check these parts that you suggested today. The Truck is a 2WD XLT Extended Cab. The transmission will go into 1st manually and it will also shift into all the gears but reverse

I have replaced all 6 shift solenoids , installed a shift kit by trans go, resealed the reverse servo piston and replaced the filter but still do not have a reverse gear. Do you have any other thoughts as to what the problem could be. I also checked for spring tension with a screwdriver in the reverse servo hole and felt some there

Check the reverse modulation valve in the valve body. I saw that you had another thread that was similar to this one, so I've merged them together. I didn't realize that you had 3 threads on the same subject under different titles.

What am I going to check for? I had all that apart when I installed the shift kit. Just asking so I unsder stand better maybe

Sometimes a valve body could get warped in certain areas, and it will affect a certain section. Maybe in this case it's the reverse modulation valve. Did you use a 1/4" drive In/Lb torque wrench to tighten the valve body bolts?

Yes I used a 1/4" drive in/lb torque wrench I bought from harbor freight to do this job with. I had no Reverse is why I replaced these parts. I parked the truck one night and went back out the next day to find that my reverse did not work. So that is why I started this tread a while back. Thanks for all the help you have gave me so for.
