yep, my battery literally blew up. i noticed it had a low charge on the guage so i decided to charge it up for a few hours. went out two hours later to check the progress and no chaneg at all. so i went to wiggle the cables to make sure they had a good connection (rusty) and it went BOOM! it was so loud that my ear was ringing really really loud for a few minutes. luckily no acid blew out. just the plastic on top. pretty crazy.... now i will always have a fear whenever i got to charge a battery or jump a car. batteries r serious people.... i learned my lesson to be extra careful!

Luckily you are O.K., and yes, batteries are serious business since they contain acid, and if anyone doubts why when changing/charging a battery that it is recommended to wear safety goggles, remind them of this story. I would have probably changed the connections first -- esp. noticing rust.

When you charge a battery it will emit Hydrogen gas. When you wiggled the clamp it sparked and ignited the hydrogen gas....

ALWAYS unplug or turn off the charger before disconnecting OR adjusting the terminals.

i had an old piece of crap parts explorer and the battery (old worn turd) had been charging all day, it sat over night and as soon as i hit the key to start it the battery exploded. it sounded like a 12 gauge shotgun at close range. im talkin caps gone, top missing, smoke everywhere. luckily i closed the hood so it was contained but i can only imagine........be safe guys

yeah it was definitely a good learning experience. sometimes u have to learn the hard way. and yes it was very very loud. i compared it to my ruger super black hawk .44 magnum. it was very loud! even louder when its unexpected like that.

I had the same thing happen to me when I was a kid. My brother was charging a battery, and I saw the spark when he hooked it up. So I was like, cool, kept kicking it to see the spark, and then BOOM. 27 years later and Im still scared!

I work on semis. Four batteries per truck. Everyone gets a charger put on when we pull them in the shop. Load test at least 1 truck worth a day. We have a set of terminals stuck in the insulation in the ceiling from one blowing up. Always wear at least glasses. I wear a full face shield
