I have a 2000 Explorer 5.0 2WD. I decided to go with the Brembo rotors with Hawk HPS pads. So I ordered everything from thetirerack.com. Well when I got the rotors, the rear were gold colored like I wanted, but the front wasn't they were silver. So I called and talked to customer service, they sent me another set of front. They said it must have been misboxed. So I got my second set in about 4 or 5 days later and they were the same and rusted bad. So I took pictures. I emailed them the pictures and the lady I talked to before called me. By the way her name is Ellen and she did a good job handling this. So they called Brembo to see whats the problem. Come to find out Brembo doesnt sell the front in the gold finish because of the bearing race on them. So I returned all the rotors and got a refund. I finally ordered Power Slot Cryo rotors from AutoAnything.com and they came better packaged with no problems. I have yet to install them. They arrived at my house the day I had to leave for work. I need to buy new bearing to put in also and repaint my calipers. Here is a pic of the rotors from thetirerack.com the top left is one from the first set of front rotors, the top right is a rear rotor and the bottom is the rusted one from the second set. I will post some more pics when I get to working on it.

Thanks for posting this, great to know about the Brembo's, if I was looking for rotors I probably would have gone with them by name at first too.
They look aweful with the rust on them, so I'm glad you got it sorted out.

Cheers

I cant believe they actually sent you RUSTED ROTORS. Are they on crack?

I have the Brembo rear rotors and Hawk HPS pads and I love them

I'm betting the box got wet? And its just surface rust. The brake surface would be cleaned up in no time, and the rest is going to rust anyway. :dunno: But that is why the rears are coated, so that they don't rust.

They did a poor job of packaging them. I don't know what the gold treatment is for. Most brake companies claim the coating or plating they put on it will prevent rust, but they always end up rusting unless you put some high temp paint before you install them.

I too got my Brembo rotors from tire rack. Same style rotors. A quick question regarding the picture of the rusted rotor with the back side up. Should the little slotted wheel around the hub turn at all , or does it matter?

I noticed that I could turn mine yesterday when I got to the second rotor (not sure about the first as it was already on the car when I noticed the 2nd one).
