My buddy has a problem and I am looking to help him out

My buddy has a 97 Ford Ranger and his 3rd Brake light doesn't work and he checked all the fuses and none of them were bad I told him he may have a short somewhere because when he hooks a trailer to his truck the trailer hookup plug for the trailer lights doesn't work either so, this may be tied into his problem. Does anyone have any suggestions that I can tell him on how to fix his problem. He rewired the trailer lights and they still don't work.

Are these fluorescent too?

The Explorer has this only for 96=97 and there is a pricey lamp and ballast assembly that is getting very hard to get. Some have reported months of back order. People are cutting them up and putting lamps or LEDs in.

he doesnt have that.... the ranger was way different using regular bulbs... he doesnt have the flourescent tube with the ballast..... check the actual bulb itself.......
