Disconnect the battery over night. That will reset the computer and codes. If it comes back on take it to Auto Zone or someplace that will read your codes for free.

are you saying that the check engine light is on but there is no code stored in the computer?

Yeah, if you get a CEL, there's gotta be a code that can be pulled. Autozone reads codes for free, take it there and see what they say. In some instances, the dudes at Autozone know more than the Ford mechanics.

did they check the MAF? my mothers 96 had a problem with the MAF telling the engine too much air was coming in becasue i actually changed the air filter for once.

thanks every one for your reply! ill try everything you said to and see if it works..

Resetting the computer is a no, no!! That's the easy way out.

If your check engine light comes on, you most likely have a problem and there are codes that needs to be read. Resetting the computer will loose them codes, so dont reset the computer. Some auto shops read codes for free.

If the vehicle is in fault it will always throw a code.
It will not reset in fault mode.

Exactly, MONMIX!

Yeah but what are the chances it's in fault mode? Id say pretty slim, lets be realistic. :D
