My Poor Truck!!!!

111,000 the fuel pump quit
ok, lay out in the snow and drop the tank
great fixed! 2 hrs later dead fuel pump.....

turns out to be a defective part here we go again back to the snow filled parkinglot.

a week later Fuel pressure regulator. ok runs better than when I bought it :)

seriously 2 hours later she is choking and sputtering again. back to the parts store with the fuel pressure regulator. new one and runs great for 5 min!!! that didnt do it. (the first one cured the check engine light and O2 sensor codes :) )

on first start, the eng. runs great, after a few minutes, I cant give it more than a third throttle and she coughs and sputters like its outta gas. the pump runs, new strainer in tank, new filter in line, and new pressure regulator. WTF is going on here!!!!!!!!! when I shut it down and start it back up, it runs right for 30 sec and then back to her tricks. has anyone had this problem before?
could a MAF or TPS cause this condition? I am really getting frustrated now! anyone HELP PLEASE!!!!!!:redexp: :shoot:

Try changing the fuel filter and running a bottle of injector cleaner through the system. It's possible that while changing the pump you stirred up some trash that had settled in the bottom of the tank and it gots sucked into the system.

Fuel line spring lock tool?

I bought this piece of crap tool from advance autoparts and it broke the first time I tried to use it, I was able to use the little ears to remove the lines the first time, but now I cant get the front line off of the filter RRRRRRRRR

its just soooo weird how consistently i can shut er off and start er back up and drive like normal for 30 seconds or so

???:fire:

You might want to look for a crushed or blocked fuel return line. A friend of mine has an Escort GT and he had a similar problem. Took us WEEKS to track it down!! We finally started tracing lines and found a crushed fuel return line from an excursion that his daughter took into a ditch. What happens is that the excess fuel can't return to the tank, causing backpressure in the fuel line which starves the motor. It works fine for a short while until the pressure builds, then quits. Since the line wasn't fully blocked, it bled off while it sat, and presto!! it would start again.

Another thing, I'd also try to run it with the gas cap off. I have heard of occasional stories where the vent in the gas cap was blocked, causing a pressure problem. If it runs with it off, just replace the cap.

my EX is HAPPY AGAIN!!!!

well, I got my buddies fuel pressure gauge and to no surprise it was 27 at idle (should be 35-40psi)
and once it starts acting up (after I drive it for 30 sec to a min) hit the gas and the pressure dropped to 8psi
A WHOLE 8 !!!!!!

well it was fuel pump number 3 I replaced that Advance auto piece of crap with a nice napa gold fuel pump and HOLY COW does she run good!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I will not be purchasing more than oil and spark plugs from advance auto anymore!!!!

Thanks for all of your help! That was a tough one to diagnose!

now I can get back to work on my Probe!!!!
2.0 to 2.5 swap !! its running and on its way back together!
Thanks again!

I could've told you NAPA is the best place to go.

I'm a bit partial to NAPA. Could it be because my dad works there and I get mad discounts on parts? Hmmmm.... Maybe.....? :p
